How can we simplify our daily routine from the abstract complexities of life? What are the patterns created by our lives in stasis and in transformation?
For the work, I will interpret details of daily life, especially life in transition. Our mundane daily life is a routine we maintain like a never ending cycle. From waking in the morning, getting ready to go to school, riding the metro or driving a car. From sunrise to sunset to sunrise again, we mostly run on autopilot. Individuals and their repetitions each second, each minute, each hour, create their own patterns. My analysis of these patterns are expressed through new mixed media works utilizing drawing, sewing, newspaper border tape, and photographic collage, that will hopefully invigorate the static walls.
I have observed DC in its transformation over the past few years. Buildings have changed...people have changed...relationships have changed. Older structures have been torn down to have condos have rise from their ashes like a steel and concrete phoenix. Newcomers and long-time residents have exchanged places. Witnessing this transition evokes my own self-reflection and nostalgia.
My technique of sewing lines on paper, taping lines to paper and walls, and creating parallel lines and patterns that diverge and converge, shows linear relationships.
